Sonic Genetics, a subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare, offers comprehensive genetic testing to doctors and patients who are part of the Sonic Healthcare Network. The purpose of Sonic Genetics is to enable a national provision and promotion of genetic testing services by Sonic, with a goal to becoming the national leader in provision of clinically relevant genetic diagnostic services in Australia.
Position description
We are seeking a Genetic Counsellor (Level 2) to join our Sonic Genetics team at Grosvenor Place, Sydney. You will play a key role and your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering exceptional patient care and providing pre and post-test counselling for a range of conditions including those detected on reproductive carrier screening, non-invasive prenatal testing, cancer and cardiac panels. This will be delivered via telehealth and the scope of the counselling is limited to those matters that relate directly to the test
- Providing accurate and useful information through the Sonic Genetics Helpline, website, literature and education activities, such information being generic and not a patient-specific professional service. This position has high visibility across Sonic and with our requestors and patients nationally and you will play a key role in positing promoting Sonic Genetics to attract further clients.
- Assisting in the provision of education and development and maintenance of educational material for patients and physicians.
- Triaging referrals for genetic testing received through the testing laboratories and ensuring all requirements are met prior to testing
- Working closely with the Senior Genetic Counsellor to maintain an active role in providing genetic counselling as a professional service and maintaining certification, including ongoing professional development and engagement with supervision.
Ideal Candidate
- Must have Master of Genetic Counselling (or equivalent) and be certified as a genetic counsellor by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia or board eligible to be certified as a genetic counsellor by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
- Minimum 3 years clinical experience and demonstrated understanding of the principles of genetic counselling including medical, genetic and psychosocial aspects. Previous medical laboratory experience will be advantageous
