Graduate Social Woker (Mental Health) Birdwing Therapies

JOB DESCRIPTION

Birdwing Therapies is a well-established, highly regarded Social Work and Speech Pathology Practice based in Malanda and are seeking a Graduate Social Worker – (Mental Health) to work within our dedicated team.

Reporting to the Director, the Social Worker (Mental Health) will be responsible for upholding and supporting individuals’ rights to live a safe and inclusive life. The successful Social Worker will provide short to medium-term clinical casework; 1:1 outreach to individuals in local schools; support group programs; and liaise with external agencies, allied health professionals, government departments and schools in supporting individuals to achieve positive outcomes.

You will be supported to achieve clinical excellence through a commitment to creating service improvement opportunities and a positive workplace culture of learning and development. Social Workers recognise the impact of the socioeconomic, cultural, psychological and political determinants on a person’s health and overall wellbeing and focus on enhancing a person’s social and emotional functioning through targeted specialised interventions, services and supports. 

The available role is 2-3 days per week, with hours and days of work negotiable upon an offer of employment. The role is based in Malanda, and will involve travel within the local Tablelands region. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial psychosocial assessments.
  • Provide support, advocacy, and counselling.
  • Prepare written case notes & progress reports.
  • As required, develop intervention plans and safety plans.
  • Facilitate client referrals to other organisations and services for further specialised support.
  • Engage collaboratively in case discussions within the team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Social Work.
  • AASW membership (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Queensland Disability Worker Card (Yellow Card)
  • Blue Card
  • Certificate in Sandplay Therapy & Symbol Work (or willingness to obtain)
  • Certificate in First Aid, CPR & Anaphylaxis
  • Current National Police Check 
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal).
  • Commitment to cultural, gender and neurological diversity
