The Position
The College Guidance Counsellor is a role that has been created due to the Well Being Boost Grant for 2024. This role sits in the Learning Support/Counsellor Department of the College and will assist with students’ needs as deemed appropriate. Reporting to the Deputy Principal- Head of Primary, the Guidance Counsellor must always be an exceptional ambassador for the College, providing high level service to students, parents, staff and visitors. This role works very closely with the Learning Support Coordinator PP-12.
Professional Responsibilities
- Assist students who have learning needs meet their academic goals.
- Assist with IEP, LAP management and organisation.
- Assist with IEP, LAP meetings.
- Planning and organizing individual and group programs using multi-disciplinary approaches.
- Holding meaningful and insightful conversations with students, faculty, and parents, and assist with mediating communication between these groups.
- Assist students with homework and other study-related.
- Administering Learning Support lessons.
Key Selection Criteria
1. A degree in Guidance and Counselling and relevant practicing experience.
2. Highly effective communication skills.
The Guidance Counsellor will have the capacity to communicate professionally and sensitively in a variety of contexts.
3. Discretion, judgement and confidentiality.
The Guidance Counsellor will maintain confidentiality, exercising discretion and sound judgement in all interactions.
4. Organisation and Administration.
The Guidance Counsellor will demonstrate an ability to prioritise as well as exceptional organisational and administrative skills, including a well-developed ability to use appropriate software in the execution of the role.
5. Flexibility and initiative.
The Guidance Counsellor will demonstrate initiative as appropriate, be flexible and willing to learn new skills. Appropriate professional development will be available and it is expected that he/she will avail him/herself of these opportunities.

Conditions and Salary
- 10 hours per week to be worked over 1.5 days.
- Term-Time – 38 working weeks.
- This role is a School Officer Level 6, as per Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA) Enterprise Agreement.
