Primary Care Connect are seeking an experienced professional to work within the Health Team as Harm Reduction Worker.

About the Role
Primary Care Connect aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people who use drugs within Greater Shepparton and the surrounding areas. Funder by the Department of Health and Human Services, Primary Care Connect provides a range of programs including:
- The Needle Syringe Program (NSP) which provides people who use drugs with injecting equipment and information and education
- NSP vending machine for access to clean injecting equipment afterhours
- Alcohol and other drugs team who can provide a holistic service to people who use drugs.
- Support services for families and significant others.
The Harm Reduction Worker will engage clients and act as a conduit to other services within Primary Care Connect. The Harm Reduction Worker will work within a harm reduction frame work to provide education, information and referral to people who use drugs to reduce the risks of drug use and improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant discipline such as Nursing, AOD, Community Development, Social Work, Welfare, or equivalent.
- Minimum AOD Skill Set or willingness to undertake training during 6 month probationary period
- Professional knowledge, skill and experience working with PWUD
- A sound knowledge of health and social issues for PWUD such as; blood bore virus prevention, pharmacotherapy treatment, stigma and discrimination
- Ability to establish ethical, responsible and professional relationships that have clear boundaries with consumers, staff and external organisations
- Ability to engage with service users in a warm non-judgemental manner, demonstrate a strong custom service focused approach and there able engage the client in harm reduction brief interventions and education
- Experience using technology to complete daily work tasks
- Professional and personal alignment with Primary Care Connect core value
Desirable
- Tertiary qualification, or higher in a relevant discipline such as Nursing, AOD, Community Development, Social Work, Welfare, or equivalent.
- Experience working in nursing, toxicology, pharmacotherapy or relevant clinical field.
- Experience working in health promotion
