JOB DESCRIPTION

Shore is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding School, emphasising excellence in academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits and fostering integrity in moral and spiritual development in a Christian environment. Established in 1889 as a leading comprehensive school for boys’ education, Shore welcomed girls to the Early Learning Centre and K, 1, 2 Preparatory School at its Northbridge Campus in 2003. Shore’s rich history and traditions have powerfully shaped the School, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  
Shore is seeking to appoint a Head of Counselling Services. Reporting to the Deputy Head Pastoral Care, you will draw on your experience as a psychologist in mental health, clinical and education settings to lead and guide the support of students, families and staff in complex matters and implement and evaluate solutions focused counselling and support programs across the whole School.

You are a passionate leader who strongly desires to enhance the holistic development of our student’s spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical capability and well-being through counselling and support programmes. You will manage the Counselling Services Team and role model care for students as you resource and upskill staff to enhance the management of the social and emotional needs of students. You will ensure precise and consistent communication with families and School staff to ensure all stakeholders receive considered, timely and appropriate information and advice.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Empathy with and an understanding of boys and a strong commitment to the ongoing delivery of educational excellence for boys in a Christian independent school.
  • Full registration as a psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (Ahpra).
  • Experience working with children and their families in a mental health/clinical settings and education settings. 
  • Experience in case management, presenting seminars/workshops and managing the legal, ethical and organisational requirements of a clinical, counselling role
  • Strategic development, program management and administration skills with an ability to consult, plan, delegate and keep others accountable.
  • Developed skills in problem solving and decision making, including a willingness to adopt collaborative and consultative approaches.
  • Highly effective communication skills including both in oral and written forms and the ability to interact and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • The ability to recruit, build, lead, equip, manage and develop teams.
  • Current Working with Children Check and current COVID Vaccination Status

Members of Staff are encouraged to attend School Chapel services and to actively support the School’s Christian Ethos. They will also be required to participate in co-curricular life of our students.
