Our modern, well equipped campus is located on the north side of Brisbane with an enrolment of over 1500 students from Prep to Year 12.    

 

We are seeking an experienced Counsellor or Psychologist to lead our caring team of Pastoral Care professionals as Head of Pastoral Care commencing Term 1, 2023. 

 

Reporting to the Principal, this is an exciting opportunity to lead a committed team to provide knowledge and support to students, teachers and families in the area of social, emotional and behavioural needs within a P – 12 school setting. The successful applicant will have experience leading a team, and have an engaging approach to interacting with children and adolescents. The applicant will demonstrate a strong Christian faith with an ability to be flexible and adapt as required to manage the diverse range of student and family needs. 

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Managing a counselling case load
  • Leading a team of Counsellors and Chaplains
  • Student crisis management
  • Contributing to proactive social, emotional and educational needs across the school
  • Collaborating with external mental health service providers
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing case management plans
  • Maintaining awareness of current best practice in your area of work
  • Providing professional development to staff in your area of expertise
  • Administration and compliance

To be successful, you will have: 

  • An active Christian faith and strong Christian character
  • Registration with a Counselling Association, eg. ACA, AHPRA, AASW, PACFA. 
  • Minimum five years’ experience post qualifying, in providing counselling or psychology addressing emotional and/or behavioural needs to children and adolescents, and their families, and to At-Risk students
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of professionals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current QLD Child Protection Legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child/adolescent development and mental health issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an ability to work collaboratively with a team and engage with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in delivery of presentations and the capacity to develop and deliver social/emotional education to students, staff and parents
  • Regular Supervision and Professional Development, as per requirements of the Counselling Registration body 
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal issues regarding the role of a counselling professional in an educational setting 
  • Current First Aid certificate  
  • Eligibility for a Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card)
