Our Service:

The headspace Early Psychosis program provides specialised assessment, early intervention, assertive outreach, and case management for young people aged 12-25 in the South East Queensland region who are at risk of, or experiencing, a first episode of psychosis.

Role Overview

Coordinate comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health care and provide specific psychological and psychosocial interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of young people aged 12-25 years who are referred to the headspace Early Psychosis service within a community mental health setting.

The overall aims of clinical care within the headspace Early Psychosis service are:

  • Early detection of those young people who are experiencing, or at risk of, a first episode of psychosis
  • To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis in order to minimise the impact of a first episode of psychosis on the normal developmental trajectory of the young person
  • Intervene early and effectively with young people at risk of a first episode of psychosis to prevent the onset of psychotic illness
  • To provide a responsive and seamless access to services for young people, and their family/significant others, with early psychosis and first episode psychosis
  • Enable both symptomatic and functional recovery from a first episode of psychosis
  • Deliver high quality evidence based clinical care as a member of the multidisciplinary team

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a General/Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Mental Health Nurse, OR AASW eligibility/registration as a Social Worker.
  • No experience necessary working with young people experiencing early psychosis, as we provide on the job training
  • Highly developed communication (including written) and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to engage with people, advocate on their behalf and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, families & friends and stakeholders.
  • Experience in the use of electronic client/customer management systems, ability to use a desktop computer, and experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
