HeartKids is a national organization, supporting babies, children, teens, adults, and their families, affected by congenital or childhood acquired heart disease.
The role of a Psychologist or Social Worker with mental health accreditation, is part of the HeartKids Support Services team, delivering mental health support programs to HeartKids families across Western Australia and developing programs that can be delivered across Australia.
The role is designed to help make a significant difference to children, adults, and their family members impacted by congenital or childhood-acquired heart disease, through the provision of a broad range of services including but not limited to: the development and delivery of specialist group support programs for people including teens, adults, siblings, parents and grandparents, bereavement support, peer support program and methodology, upskilling existing HeartKids support staff in the mental health area and occasional family support counseling.
About the Role
The Psychologist or Social Worker with mental health accreditation is responsible for the provision of a range of emotional and practical support services within HeartKids, to achieve the best outcomes for those affected by congenital heart disease, and their families. The Psychologist / Social Worker is also responsible for assisting with the research, development, and implementation of support programs to be piloted by HeartKids across Australia.
You will be a critical member of the local WA Support team, which is part of the HeartKids National Support Services Team. You will contribute to the success of HeartKids and its relevance to families impacted by congenital heart disease and have an affinity for working with clients with complex needs.
This is a part-time role, 15.2 hours per week (0.4 FTE / 2 days per week). The role is based in the Perth office with the flexibility to work from home on occasion. Program delivery will happen at various locations across WA but mainly in metropolitan Perth.
Essential Qualifications
Must hold an appropriate degree in Psychology / Social Work with mental health accreditation.
Must be a member or eligible for membership with the relevant professional bodies.
Ability to design, implement, and evaluate counseling sessions and tools for groups, family-based, and individual counseling sessions.
Ability to conduct research and evaluation.
Ability to deliver program training to support service delivery staff.
Experience in program administration.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders would be highly regarded.
Must hold an open driver’s license, Working with Children Clearance, Police Clearance, and undertake an immunization program if required.
