JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: High Risk Domestic Violence Case Worker – PRADO 

Classification: Level 5 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Subject to funding. 6 months’ probationary period applies. 

Employment Status: 58 hours per fortnight, 18 months fixed term. Salary Packaging available. 

Work Location: Primarily based in the Police Station Domestic Violence
Units in Caboolture, Burpengary, North Lakes, Petrie, Deception Bay and Redcliffe. Worker may be required to provide services at other CADA designated locations within the Moreton Bay region as needed. 

Accountability: The position is responsible to and takes directions from the PRADO Manager or designated supervisor and CADA CEO. Hours of Work
CADA’s hours of operation are 8 am to 5 pm.

ABOUT US
The Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is a community organisation funded by the Queensland Government to respond to adults and children affected by domestic and family violence. We provide counselling and crisis/court support, safety planning and referrals. CADA is active in early intervention, prevention strategies and advocacy to end domestic and family violence, in partnership with government and organisations working in the sector. We operate from offices at Caboolture, Redcliffe and Strathpine.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide physical, emotional, psychological support for all victims of domestic and family violence and provide a referral service for perpetrators within the Moreton Bay region and surrounds.
  2. To initiate a comprehensive community education program to improve community awareness of domestic and family violence legislation and misconceptions surrounding the social and political beliefs about domestic violence.
  3. To encourage acknowledgment by the community of the criminality of domestic and family violence by focusing on the social, emotional, and economic ramifications for both victims and the wider community.
  4. To research, develop and implement preventative and responsive strategies to domestic and family violence within the Caboolture and surrounding regions. 
  5. To nurture and develop support networks relevant to victims and advocate on behalf of victims to facilitate their access to other services.
  6. To advocate for the establishment and maintenance of emergency and crisis services within the Moreton Bay region and surrounds.
  7. To advocate and facilitate an integrated response to domestic and family violence by all agencies (Government and non-government) within the Moreton Bay region.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver quality case management activities as part of the Domestic Violence Intervention Response to maximise the safety of all families at risk. This position provides early intervention, safety skills, planning and information for families across Moreton Bay following Queensland Police Service (QPS) attendance to their homes in relation to domestic and family violence and to support people (predominantly women with children) who have experienced domestic and family violence (aggrieved persons).

The case worker may refer high risk domestic violence clients to the High Risk Team (HRT) to collaboratively case manage and increase safety within the Integrated Service System.

QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of tertiary degree in social work, psychology, behavioural science, or other related field plus a minimum of 2 work experience in a similar position.

REQUIRMENTS
• Undergo police protocol training
• National Criminal History Check, police check and police vetting
• Must inform CADA of any Domestic and Family Violence applications or orders naming you as respondent (current or in the past)
• Blue card for Working with Children (Queensland)
• Current Queensland Driver’s Licence
• Advance Computer literacy (particularly with Excel)
• Certified copies of qualifications
• Three (3) work related referees
• Certified copies of any other pertinent documents required to meet Service Standards as defined by funding body

RESPONSIBITIES

  • Establish contact with clients referred by QPS
  • Ascertain contributing factors and prioritise client needs
  • Conduct risk assessment and triage referrals
  • Provide safety planning
  • Provide information on relevant internal and external services
  • Identify potential barriers to client engagement
  • Liaise and advocate between linked services and the client
  • Make follow up contact with client when required
  • Carry out short term case management when required and review case progress
  • Provide additional services on a needs basis
  • Gain feedback from client on linked services
  • Maintain an awareness of all relevant services provided by the community sector
  • Work effectively with diverse communities within CADA’s catchment area to ensure that their cultural needs are met
  • Support the PRADO Manager in regards to the annual position work performance review (including probation period)
  • Comply with CADA policies and procedures
  • Provide monthly/quarterly/annual detailed reports to the PRADO Manager or CEO as required by funding body
  • Maintain accurate client records and other data as required by CADA and funding body
  • Work cooperatively and supportively as a member of a team to achieve the smooth and effective functioning of the service and the achievement of organisational and client goals
  • Assist with the development of appropriate written resources in relation to the domestic and family violence issues and prevention
  • Participate in CADA events and attend staff supervision, staff meetings, team building activities
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of community education and training to raise awareness of domestic and family violence issues and to increase the capacity of the community and other workers in the region in responding to domestic and family violence
  • Liaise with CADA, Police, Child Safety, Corrections and the community sector in relation to improving service delivery

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position and significant demonstrated experience of early intervention and primary prevention of domestic and family violence. This will include a working knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and the dynamics of domestic and family violence.
  2. Demonstrated experience case managing high risk clients and using interpersonal skills to conduct safety plans, referrals and meet the immediate risks and needs of the client and experience working with QPS.
  3. Ability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary team environment to address the needs of women and families experiencing domestic and family violence, demonstrating a composed and reliable manner with minimal supervision. Proactively manage workload to a high standard.
  4. Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of innovative intervention practices including crisis response, trauma informed counselling, therapeutic, psycho-educational, community education and/or training with women and families particularly those who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence.
  5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills (verbal and written) including computer literacy (MS Office Suite, Desktop).
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a sound knowledge and understanding the issues which impact diverse communities in contemporary society.
