The Opportunity

In the role of a Support Worker within the IFS service, you’ll provide the delivery of quality services to Youturn clients through interaction with vulnerable families.  Guided by Case Officers and Coordinators, the Support Worker will receive allocated tasks aligned with client case plan goals.

 

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Ensure service delivery is coordinated through an integrated model within Youturn as well as external agencies (government and non-government).
  • Provide support, guidance and coaching to family and carers to enable sustainable relationships and wellbeing of the child and the carers as guided by the Case Officers / Coordinator to increase family functioning.
  • Build positive and supporting relationships with families with complex needs, including the reporting of harm or risk of harm to children.
  • Record all client data and case notes including the Social Impact Evaluation data, according to Youturn policies, procedures and funding body requirements.
  • Provide therapeutic engagement with all members of the family, including youth and children. 
  • Assist in the preparation of reports related to the program area as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications of relevant Diploma with experience working with vulnerable families or a tertiary degree in Social Work, Family Therapy, Counselling or Community Services/Welfare with at least 1 years’ experience.
  • Experience supporting families in the child protection setting, with knowledge of relevant theory and legislation, supported by a practice approach that aligns with the Strengthening Families, Protecting Children framework and broad-based safety and risk assessment skills including the application of a Safe & Together model of practice.
  • Clear understanding of the current Child Protection Legislation Disability Services Act, child protective issues and family support approaches.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of client centred case management.
  • Sound understanding of child protective issues and family support approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with clients, including families with complex needs. 
  • Demonstrated competence in working with people with complex and multiple issues, including those from diverse culturalbackgrounds.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills; including a proven ability to develop rapport and communicate with young people, families, students, management, employers and staff from government Departments, community agencies and training and industry organisations.

 

Other Requirements

  • This role may include some early morning, evening and weekend work in order to meet families’ needs.
  • Successful applicants will also need to hold a ‘C’ class Open driver licence, State Working with Children Check and hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
