Intake and Assessment Worker – Parental Leave Position Blue Mountains Family Support Service Inc.

Thrive Services provides family and homelessness support for families, as well as practical drop-in emergency relief assistance for the whole of the Blue Mountains community. We also provide family support programs in Lithgow. About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide direct assistance and support to vulnerable members of the community through a combination of emergency relief support, intake and referral and community engagement activities, with a focus on prevention and early intervention. This role will cover a Parental Leave Position.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Child and family support | Carry out accurate and thorough initial needs assessment of clients to determine program eligibility. To assist clients to access advocacy, information and referral to other services, community resources & support networks and to act as a Linker agency, as required.

• Program support | contribute to the effective functioning and development of the service through involvement in projects, contribution to team development and support of other programs where possible or directed by your supervisor. Provide back-up and support to family work referral and waiting list including in-house assessment, as direct and approved by Team Leader and/or Chief Executive Officer.

• Project Work | Develop, undertake and/or maintain project work requirements, as approved with Team Leader and/or Chief Executive Officer. This project work should include:

– Maintaining positive relationships with others

– Promote program (where appropriate) with other service networks

– Seek sources of funding to support the program, when required.

• Relationship management | develop strong professional relationships with clients, other Thrive staff and other external stakeholders to contribute to the effective functioning of the service and supporting improved outcomes.

• Communication | effective communication with staff, volunteers, students and clients, using a strength based approach to ensure effective service functioning and positive outcomes for clients.

• Administration | ensure client documentation is kept up to date and well maintained in accordance with policy, and complete other ranges of administrative duties contributing to the efficient running of the service

About the applicant

To be successful in this position you will have relevant tertiary qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience in providing services in a drop-in or similar environment.

You would also have demonstrated experience in undertaking assessment & referrals and providing practical solutions & other support to the community.

This role requires good organisational and time management skills and be proficient in MS Office programs as well as knowledge and proficiency in electronic case or data management tools.

To be considered for this position you will need to have a current Working with Children Check, National Police Criminal Record check, current Driver’s Licence

& be up to date with your COVID vaccinations.
