Intake and Referral Practitioner – Townsville Act for Kids

Act for Kids is a prominent provider of prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2021 – 2022 we provided services to 39,002 people, including over 23,000 children.

About the Position

We are looking to welcome an Intake and Referral Practitioner to manage referrals into the Act for Kids Intensive Family Support Service, with possibility for part time (0.6FTE minimum) or full time. This role is to 31 December 2026 with possible extension, subject to continued funding.

This position is classified Level 4 under the SCHCADS award. Salary range is $82,046 – $88,288 plus superannuation (pro-rata for part time).

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Respond to and process referrals and referral enquiries in a timely, sensitive, and effective manner.
  • Complete child protection risk assessments and domestic and family violence risk screenings.
  • Identify support needs of families and whether they meet the target criteria of the program.
  • Provide information about alternate referral pathways as required, to families and external referring bodies.

About You

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (social work, human services, allied health).
  • Professional registration (if required) and membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).
  • At least 2 years’ experience working within a child protection framework.
  • The ability to build rapport quickly and respectfully over the phone and in person.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, data and record keeping skills.

Other Requirements
