Youth Focus is a for-purpose organisation that creates brighter futures for young people in Western Australia by offering a range of no-cost mental health services. Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25. A key component of this is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres.

We are looking for an Intake Officer to join our Metro Team. This role will be based at our Head Office located in Burswood, on Whadjuk Noongar Country.

  • Part-time position (0.6FTE)
  • NEW ROLE!
  • Fixed-term contract until June 2024

About the Role

The Intake Officer plays an integral role in the service delivery of the Perth Metro clinical team. Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Initial intake of all referrals to determine appropriateness for service, including assessment of risk and complexity scaling.
  • Act as an information source for young people, families, agencies, and community seeking information and support over the phone.
  • Conduct initial screening assessments with young people and their families in order to provide an immediate response of either external or internal referral.
  • Act as interim holder of cases until it has been allocated and monitor ongoing mental status and risk levels.
  • Collation of referral information to present to weekly intake meeting.
  • Management of client referral/information prior to intake meeting.

About You

To be considered for this position, applicants will have:

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Counselling or Mental Health nursing.
  • Current registration or membership with appropriate professional body.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills working in a clinical role or triage/intake role.
  • Minimum one year working in a youth mental health setting.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in carrying out detailed psychosocial and suicide risk assessments.
  • Ability to work independently whilst in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage data information systems.
