We aim to improve the safety of women and children by providing specialist knowledge and culturally appropriate services to break the cycle of domestic violence and stem the flow of Aboriginal children into the child protection system.   

 

About the position…  

Intensive Family Services (IFS) program delivers support to Aboriginal families who have been referred from the Department of Human Services as part of the Child and Family Support System (CFSS). KWY receive referrals to support families around child protection concerns and support families to address the concerns. The IFS Practitioner works closely with families to improve family functioning, reduce risk and identify strengths. 

In this position you will have the opportunity to access cultural learnings sessions, cultural training, professional development, and one on one supervision.  

What does a week working as a Family Practitioner look like? 

In this role, you will utilise your excellent engagement skills to establish connections with new Aboriginal families while continuing to support those you have already built relationships with. You will work alongside them as they progress towards their goals, providing a range of essential services.  The safety and well-being of children and all family members is paramount. In this role you will collaborate with families to develop safety plans, addressing any potential risks or concerns.  

You will provide advocacy and information, offer therapeutic support in a variety of outreach settings. You will empower families by providing essential information, and ensuring their voices are heard. You will receive support from a Program Coordinator (line manager) and be part a team of IFS Practitioners. You will have access to a motor vehicle during your working day, laptop and mobile phone to carry out your work.  A large part of your day is out visiting families this could be at the family home, community centres, schools or wherever the family feel most comfortable. You would then return to the office to case note and follow up on advocacy for the families, the office environment is friendly and supportive.

About you… 

The successful applicant will have skills, experience, and knowledge in working with Aboriginal people to address Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence concerns. The applicant will have the skills to work within a therapeutic, trauma-informed framework, providing case management. To be able to offer this service, the ability to connect with parents and build trust are vital personal attributes.  

 

About the pay… 

  • Positions are classified under the SCHADS award 
  • Salary range is $82,045 to $88,277 plus superannuation (full-time equivalent) 
  • The position is available .8 with fulltime negotiable.  
  • In addition, as a registered Not for Profit/Charity, we offer excellent salary packaging options through CBB which can significantly increase your take-home pay.

Other requirements… 

You must hold a current South Australian Drivers Licence or a licence which permits you to drive in South Australia.  

Successful candidates will be required to clear and maintain probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check (Police Clearance), Working with Vulnerable People Check and Working with Children Check (applicants need to hold a current WWCC to apply).
