About the role

You will report to the Senior Manager Southern and Eastern Melbourne and your responsibilities will include offering a combination of counselling, therapeutic case management and community capacity building work as part of the Intercountry Adoptee and Family Support Service, to address the impacts of intercountry adoption trauma. As a Family Support Service Practitioner, you will provide adoption trauma informed counselling, group and mentor/peer work, psychoeducation, case management and interagency collaboration, through flexible service delivery, including face to face and over the phone.

This role is located at Boronia and is a temporary, part-time position working three (3) days per week including one evening weekly.

About you

  • Degree in social work, counselling, psychology or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those effected by childhood trauma, abuse and neglect. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the longer term and intergenerational needs of people who experienced childhood trauma.
  • Demonstrated understanding of support needs of people who have experienced intercountry adoption, including adoptees, adoptive parents and their families.
