Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is a Community Controlled Organisation and provides a range of services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living within the Ovens Murray region.

Our Purpose

Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation was established in 1994 by local Aboriginal community members with the aim of having a healthy and proud community through motivation, education and cultural acknowledgement and giving a sense of belonging.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Early Years Services Manager, the KFFE Family Support Worker supports Koori families in providing a strong foundation for their children’s early learning and development. This includes, but is not limited to, providing evidence-based parenting programs in a group or individual setting, and the provision of support services for families using strength-based practices. The KFFE Family Support Worker also provides a supported play group for families to attend weekly.

Key Responsibilities
The KFFE Family Support Worker is responsible for:

  • Applying skills and knowledge in providing parenting education programs to communities throughout the Ovens Murray region of Victoria in collaboration with the broader education and care sector.
  • Gathering, analysing, and disseminating information in relation to current parenting practices and evidence-based programs.
  • Assisting with the development of parent education programs for families, including vulnerable and high needs families.
  • Working with isolated and rural communities and with kindred community-based organisations and providers of family support.
  • Delivering quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait children and families that address their needs and exceed their expectations.

 

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications with relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience in early childhood, education, health, social work, community services, behavioural or social sciences.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, a demonstrated understanding of issues and barriers experienced by those families, and the ability to network with other agencies to support family and child wellbeing.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based group programs in a community, service setting and the ability to identify current sources of information and evidence-based programs for the purpose of delivering parent education groups.
  • Willingness and commitment to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and deliver services to the whole community.
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication skills that are readily understood by the intended audience. 
  • Computer literacy and ability to use computer applications to generate reports, and assist with basic research and collection of data.
