About the Role

 

The Koori Mental Health Liaison Officer is an Aboriginal Identified role working within the Infant Child and Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service at Eastern Health. The position will be based in Ringwood, but will work across the Eastern Metropolitan Region.

 

The position has been established to improve access to mental health services for Aboriginal children, adolescents, and young people, their families and carers, and support the delivery of clinical, cultural and spiritual healing journeys.   A key component of the role will be facilitating a strong partnership approach between ACCHO’s and ICYMHS to ensure early detection of mental illness, engagement of families and communities, and linkage into support services and shared care. 

 

About You

 

  •  Identify as of Aboriginal and/or of Torres Strait Islander origin and be accepted by the Aboriginal community
  •  Possess a relevant qualification or equivalent training in the health, social welfare or related field, OR
  •  Are keen to be supported to undertake a relevant training/qualification and have experience in the delivery of social and emotional wellbeing programs/mental health services,
     Aboriginal health  programs/community services
  •  Committed to improve access and safety of Aboriginal people in Victorian Hospitals and mental health services
  •  Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal communities and diverse cultures
  •  Ability to communicate effectively and build strong connections between ICYMHS and with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders
  •  Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy 

 

The role will be well supported and will include cultural supervision.
