IDENTIFIED POSITION

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to provide Community-based, culturally safe intervention service that assist potential offenders or those at risk of re-offending. The service works with individuals, groups, and families who seek out this program either voluntary or by statute.

The incumbent should set clear boundaries that, unless funding allows, limit their role to office hours only. Any client contact outside of these hours is to be strictly handled within the scope of the business hours.

THE IDEAL PERSON FOR THIS ROLE

Essential

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal youth, providing practical and culturally safe advice and encouragement.
  • Sound knowledge of Cultural Safety in practice and a willingness to learn.
  • Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
  • Develop case management skills, including assessment skills and developing and implementing action plans.
  • Relevant qualification (minimum Cert III Community services) or progress towards completion.
  • Ability to effectively network and collaborate with a wide range of Government and non-Government agencies.
  • Sound knowledge of a range of community services, education, health, and housing services available.
  • Experience working in the Victorian justice system.
  • Experience in working with young (Aboriginal) people in a youth group setting.
  • Excellent written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound administration, file management and computer skills.
  • Possession of a current valid Victorian driver’s license. 

Desirable 

  • Experience in working in a not-for-profit organisation, or health setting.
