About the Role

Due to growth in the Counselling area, Flinders University are looking for experienced counsellors to teach, supervise and contribute to our high-quality student-centered postgraduate programs in the Counselling (Behavioural Health) discipline. Committed to developing career-ready and enterprising graduates, our Lecturers are responsible for activities such as:

  • Creating, coordinating, and conducting inspiring teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience, and equip graduates with on the knowledge, skills and attributes that make them excellent Counsellors. .
  • Reviewing, developing, and designing inspiring and innovative courses for existing and new students who seek to study with one of the most industry aligned programs in Australia.
  • Providing academic advice to students concerning their studies, professional development, and career opportunities.
  • Using innovative and emerging technologies to teach clinical skills, enhance learning and improve practice.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to make meaningful contributions to the scholarship of teaching, professionalism, and the counselling discipline at a broader level.

Please note: this position does not involve a research contribution. Applications will be considered at both Level A and Level B depending on qualifications and experience.

About You

We are looking for a student-centred, professionally accredited Counsellor who holds membership with one the following associations: Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (PACFA) or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Our ideal candidate will bring innovative ideas to their teaching, be an excellent communicator, and understand the nexus between teaching, learning, research, and scholarship.

Furthermore, strong candidates will possess:

  • A minimum of five years clinical experience as a Counsellor or in a related field (social work, psychology or nursing considered).
  • Currently practicing as a Counsellor or Mental Health Professional.
  • Previous teaching experience in a tertiary or student-centred setting (desirable).
  • Completion of a PhD or active/intended candidature towards a doctoral qualification (Level A).
  • Completion of a PhD or EdD, or equivalent qualification (Level B).
