Mates4Mates is one of Australia’s leading veteran charities recognised nationally for providing progressive, integrated support and rehabilitation programs for veterans who have been impacted by service, and their families, helping to rebuild and change lives.

About the role
Reporting to the North Queensland Regional Manager, you will be located in our Townsville Family Recovery Centre. You will work within a passionate team and be responsible for supporting service delivery programs and activities and positive relationships to ensure more veterans and their families can access services to meet their individual needs. We have two roles available, one full time and one role part time working one day per week.
Key accountabilities of the role
- Actively engage with our veterans and their families to ensure they receive high levels of supportive engagement when accessing our services.
- Design and implement social and community connection activities as part of our holistic approach to positive health outcomes. This will include local and outreach activities such as walking or cycling groups, coffee groups, arts and craft programs etc.
- Ensure that social connection activities are actively promoted through various channels to our veterans and their families to encourage maximum participation.
- Represent Mates4Mates at external events to promote awareness of our holistic approach to veteran and family support and recovery.
Essential for success
- History of training and/or service in the ADF or a close connection; or demonstrated experience working with current or ex-service personnel in a similar role which has created a strong understanding of the issues facing our Mates and their families
- A love for the great outdoors and all things physical such as hiking, bike riding and other sports activities.
- High levels of self-awareness and ability to adjust your communication style to suit your audience
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional approach when supporting clients who may be experiencing mental and physical health issues
- Flexibility in approach to work when unplanned demands of client needs conflict with meeting deadlines
- Strong computer skills, including the use of web-based platforms and social media, to engage with your client group and undertake administration tasks relevant to the role
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills
Advantageous
- Previous experience delivering social or community support services
- Understanding of risk assessments and completion of relevant documentation and reporting
- Formal qualifications in providing peer support or community services or mental health services
