Communify, with funding from Queensland Health & Brisbane North Primary Health Network are delivering in partnership with Brisbane Youth Service, Institute of Urban Indigenous Health the ‘The Way Back Support Service’ (TWBSS) in the Brisbane north region. TWBSS is a suicide after-care service, developed by Beyond Blue to fill the gap in care for people discharged from hospital after a suicide attempt or after a significant suicidal crisis. TWBSS provides non-clinical, tailored support to participants for up to three months following discharge from hospital.
Full-Time leadership position offering direct support to individuals directly after a suicide attempt
About the role
- Provide leadership, strategic coordination and quality assurance
- Provide support and supervision for staff, ensuring clarity of roles & responsibilities, & appropriate training opportunities
- Engage participants and develop trust, culturally appropriate, trauma informed professional relationships
- Provide leadership & mentoring in the delivery of a highly responsive, assertive outreach, person-centred psychosocial support service that reduces stress & improves the wellbeing of participants
Role criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health or Social Services related fields such as suicide prevention
- Demonstrated effective leadership and team management experience in human services sector
- Sound understanding of personal, family and social issues associated with suicidal ideation and attempts, including awareness of groups identified to be at risk of suicide
- Demonstrated skills and ability to work effectively with participants, family members and service providers to identify solutions
- Excellent communication skills, particularly with individuals and their families/carers who may be experiencing significant distress
- Experience liaising with external service providers including tertiary mental health services, GPs and other government and community-based services and organisations
- Solid understanding of recovery principles, strengths based principles and trauma informed support
- High level of competency using technology
