On behalf of our client which is a well established not for profit organisation in the Northern Territory we are seeking an experienced Counsellor to work with male perpetrators of domestic violence and violent behaviour. The Program is based in Darwin with outreach to the Darwin Correctional Centre, Wadeye and the Tiwi Islands. The program works with men who use violence in relationships – to learn and develop new behaviours and improve the safety of women and children. It is important that as part of the counselling service, clients are provided with education, support, individual case management and referrals to other services.

- Work with male clients who are referred to the program by conducting assessment
- Providing ongoing counselling around behaviour
- Provide appropriate referrals where necessary
- Facilitate counselling groups
- Maintaining contact with perpetrators
- Developing exit strategies and linking men into relevant support groups such as men’s healing programs
About You
- Relevant qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Welfare Studies or Men’s Family Violence with substantial experience in a similar role.
- Experience facilitating Men’s Behaviour Change Programs
- Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with male aboriginals in both urban and remote communities
- Understanding of the gendered nature of domestic and family violence
- Experience in evidence-based interventions, including facilitating group work
- Demonstrated application of knowledge, in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to casework and group work to support participants
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including report writing and case note writing
