About the role
This is court-based, case work position that will be based in Lismore to service the local Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) with regular travel to other FCFCOA locations to support men impacted by family violence in the Men’s Family Advocacy and Support Service (FASS). This position works across multiple Federal Circuit and Family Court Locations to provide social, emotional and practical support to clients before, during and after court proceedings.
What you’ll do
You’ll provide emotional and practical support to men who are affected by family violence or who have allegations of family violence against them who are currently in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) system. The Family Advocacy and Support Service provides non-judgemental, drop-in or short term support to men with the social welfare needs while Legal Aid lawyers assist with legal support. You’ll conduct needs and risk assessments, refer to appropriate services and support clients as they navigate the legal system.
This is a case work role that that will deliver services primarily in-person across various FCFCOA locations in NSW with occasional telehealth provision depending on court needs.

- Full time role in program funded for delivery and expansion over 3 years
- You’ll work exclusively with men in crisis
- Working autonomously within the courts and remotely with the support of a specialised team
- Lismore-based preferred (base location flexible depending on candidate)
- Valid C NSW Drivers license is essential as regular travel is expected
- Approx. $47 per hour + super + salary packaging benefits
What you’ll bring
- Experience working with men impacted by domestic violence
- Understanding of domestic and family violence, its gendered nature, and its disproportionate impact upon women and children
- Understanding of how to work with men who are perpetrating domestic and family violence in a safe way that avoids inadvertent collusion
- Understanding of the intersections between domestic and family violence and the family law system
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, identify short term needs to ensure client, child and family safety
- Ability to effectively engage with clients in distress situations, other service providers, lawyers and court employees
- Strong professional boundaries and self-care practices; when we are at our best, we give our best
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in advocacy and conflict resolution
- Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision and as part of a team
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, networking and collaboration skills to work with internal and external stakeholders and services
