  • Full-time fixed term position through to December 2024 with a salary in the range $93,254.55 to $101,680.96 + 17% superannuation.

About This Opportunity

The Mental Health Adviser is responsible for providing enhanced triage support and emergency mental health care to students undergoing a crisis or deterioration in their mental or emotional wellbeing. They are to ensure timely and targeted assistance, using a stepped care approach. The position will contribute to the development, implementation, and coordination of triage strategies to improve overall student wellbeing.

Duties

  • Provision of triage functions within Student Services, including assessment of risk and need, including those at high risk and/or with complex needs.
  • Act as a referral point for students presenting with mental health concerns, maintaining, and developing appropriate referral pathways, both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with Student Services colleagues in the provision of initiatives that support student wellbeing, success, and engagement using cross referral and joint working where appropriate to ensure a holistic approach for students who have disclosed mental health concerns.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the planning and case management for students with mental health concerns. Evaluate effectiveness of assessment and referral processes with focus on follow-up and engagement with university and community resources.
  • Any other duties as directed.

About You

  • A degree/training in a relevant area (e.g., Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy) and at least four years subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis response, intake, and triage management, along with experience in mental health assessment and brief intervention with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven experience providing advice and recommendations to individuals on counselling and other available services.
  • Understanding of issues affecting students experiencing mental health difficulties in Tertiary Education.

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
