What You Will Be Doing
The Peninsula Health Emergency Department Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Hub is one of six funded by the State Government to enhance the care delivery for consumers from the Mental Health and AOD client group. The aim is to provide timely and effective assessment, treatment and post discharge support for individuals aged 16 and older presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) with acute mental health and AOD needs in the context of co-occurring issues.
The Mental Health and Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Peer Worker role has been developed specifically for people with a personal experience of Dual Diagnosis challenges and recovery. The Mental Health and AOD Peer Worker will provide holistic support to people who present to the Emergency Department at Frankston Hospital with exacerbations of mental health challenges, psychosocial difficulties or alcohol and other drug use, as part of the ED Mental Health and AOD Hub.
What You Need
We anticipate you will have:
• Completion of Certificate IV in Alcohol and other Drugs, Mental Health Peer Work or similar qualification (or currently undertaking)
• Personal experience of mental health and alcohol and other drug challenges and recovery
• Recognition and understanding of own experiences and ability to use this to support consumers
• Ability to use lived experience expertise to support the work of the multi-disciplinary team and ensure practice is sensitive to the needs of consumers, families and carers
