The client Our client’s Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services and Colac Area Health, in collaboration with other local Colac partners, are establishing a new headspace centre for young people in the Colac/Otway region experiencing early symptoms of mental health disorders and common co-occurring difficulties.
The new Colac centre will act as a ‘one-stop shop’ for young people (aged 12-25 years old) in the community with mental health and wellbeing concerns. It will provide no (or low) cost, youth friendly, holistic care across the headspace four core streams: Mental Health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs and vocational training/educational support.
The Role: Alcohol & Other Drugs Clinician – headspace
Division: Headspace- Colac
This is a Permanent, Part time role- 56 hours per fortnight
As the successful applicant, you will be committed to delivering high quality, primary mental health and AOD interventions for young people aged 12-25 with mental health and wellbeing concerns. You will work closely alongside a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.
The main focus of your role will be;
- Routine screening and assessment for alcohol and other drugs use
- Alcohol and other drugs information, including harm reduction strategies
- Treatments for alcohol and other drugs issues for young people accessing headspace Colac services

The successful candidate will have:
Essential-
- Formal professionally recognised qualifications in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) *Or eligible to apply
- A valid driver’s licence
- Demonstrated skills in evidence informed assessment, treatment and care of people with AOD and complex psychosocial and mental health needs
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to be eligble to work as a healthcare professional in Australia
Desirable-
- Certificate IV in AOD or willingness to complete core competencies
- Post graduate clinical or AOD qualifications
- AOD evidence based practise knowledge and/or skills based training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Training, Dialect Behavioural Therapy, Sensory Modulation, Mindfulness or Acceptance Commitment Therapy
