The Accoras Team
Accoras has been delivering mental health and wellbeing services to South-East Queensland young people and families for 30 years. Project Booyah is a shared-care model where Accoras works alongside the Queensland Police Service and other multidisciplinary team members at headspace Inala. Project Booyah is a community inclusive police mentoring program that supports identified disconnected young people regain a sense of their own self-worth, build resilience and enable them to feel a connection with their local community. The 16 week program incorporates adventure-based learning, leadership skills, social and skill development training, community intervention, functional literacy/numeracy support and vocational scholarships.

The Role
As a Mental Health Clinician, you’ll work under the guidance of a highly-respected Forensic Psychologist. Your main focus will be to lead desk-based pre-program suitability assessments for project participants. You will also provide interim focused psychological strategies to young people via telehealth until they are able to be appropriately linked in with longer-term psychological support.
This position is based at our headspace Inala office and is a part-time (30.4 hours per week), fixed-term contract until 30 June 2023 with contract extensions aligned to the renewal of funding.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has an interest in working within Youth Justice and will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
- At least 2 years’ registration in with appropriate professional body (e.g. AHPRA, AASW) is desirable, however provisional registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA will be considered.
- Experience working in an effective, evidence-based and culturally sensitive way with young people and their families from diverse backgrounds.
- Minimum two years’ experience in delivering Focused Psychological Therapies to young people.
- Previous experience with youth justice or forensic psychology would be an advantage.
- Clinical skills in safely assessing and managing at-risk young people’, including suicide and violence risks.
- A current driver’s licence, up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination status, and the ability to obtain a Working with Children check and successful police history check
