Activated Concepts is a community-based specialist clinical provider in the mental health and NDIS space. We also offer a variety of other services, including but not limited to, family support services and clinical training.

We are highly regarded for our leadership in trauma-informed practice, and have partnerships with NSW Health, NSW Department of Justice, the University of Newcastle, and large employee assistance providers.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Activated Concepts’ Mental Health Clinicians are clinical leaders in trauma-informed interventions and focused psychological strategies for people with mental health. They specialise in Victims of Crime, Employee Assistance Program, and private participants. They practice with a trauma-informed lens, in a person-centred manner with the participants, their family, and other relevant stakeholders.

Activated Concepts’ Mental Health Clinicians provide specialist clinical assessments, and psychological interventions, and develop mental health recovery plans and reports for their participants to support them live a fulfilling and meaningful life in their own community.

Activated Concepts’ Mental Health Clinicians have a sound understanding of mental health and see people in their context. They work with all ages to achieve the individual clinical goals of the participant as well as enhance the participant’s self-care strategies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Utilising a trauma-informed and person-centred evidence-based recovery-approach

• Provision of primary consultation, which includes the initial intake and assessment interview to develop a treatment plan

• Provide focused psychological strategies and counselling interventions for participants as per a developed treatment plan

• Completing and documenting comprehensive assessments and reports of support needs, areas for development, strengths, and current capabilities (as funding allows)

• Development, completion, and implementation of recovery plans to assist the participant to meet their psychosocial and functional goals (as funding allows)

• Provide training and support to assist other support providers to implement relevant plans

• Ensure professional and ethical management of client caseload by maintaining a minimum counselling session pro-rata per annum for a full-time counsellor (i.e. 6x 45min sessions per 7.6-hour day).

• Ensure all administrative tasks (including case notes) are completed accurately and on time

• Day-to-day process of collection, use, storage and dissemination of information

• Maintain documentation in accordance with relevant legislation requirements and Activated Concepts’ policies and procedures, including but not limited to, case notes, medication records, behaviour charts, medical and personal profiles and reports pertaining to the progress of people we support as well as organisational information required

• Maintain Professional Registrations, Working with Children Check, and a clear Criminal Record.

• Maintain the participant’s privacy and confidentiality

• Follow reasonable directions given by the line manager.

• All staff are expected to take reasonable care that their acts and omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others, that they comply with any reasonable instruction that is given to them and with any policies/procedures relating to health or safety in the workplace that are known to them, as well as notifying any hazards/risks or incidents to their managers.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Professional registration with AASW, PACFA (Clinical Member), ACA (Level 3 or above) or APHRA

2. Sound knowledge of mental health assessment, risk assessment and safety planning and counselling theory and practice

3. A minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in your profession

4. Experience providing counselling to clients with complex mental health issues including trauma as well as clients with multiple Mental Health diagnoses and substance misuse

5. A proven self-starter, with an ability to maintain professional independence and the ability to work in a self-directed manner whether in the office or at home

6. Understanding and commitment to confidentiality legislation and discretion for participants

7. Be fully compliant with COVID vaccination status or proof of exemption

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

5. Significant experience in conducting mental health and EAP counselling, as well as counselling with perpetrators and survivors of sexual assault and domestic & family violence will be highly regarded.

6. Experience in education, or preventative programs and group work, is desirable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

1. Relevant degree in Mental Health Services (Social Work, Psychology, Counselling etc) and registration with the associated regulatory body

2. NDIS Worker Screening Check – prior to commencement

3. NSW Working with Children Check – prior to commencement

4. NDIS Orientation Certificate – prior to commencement

5. OCG Child Safe Training completion email – prior to commencement

There are 2 contractor or causal positions available with the option of progression to full-time or Part-time once the caseload builds.

These roles allow flexibility to work from home however, face-to-face counselling at our offices must be provided if participants request the same.
