About the facility

Barwon Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Service provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

The Child and Youth Triage Team is the initial point of contact where there are mental health, alcohol and/or other drug concerns about infants, children and young people, aged between 0-25 years. Whilst Barwon Health provide a 24-7 mental health triage service, the team operates across two shifts between 0700 hours and 2200hours, 7 days a week.

About you

  • Formal professionally recognised qualifications in Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Clinical Psychology
  • Clinical mental health experience, with confidence and competence in undertaking clinical assessments, risk assessments and / or acute mental health treatment interventions
  • Sound knowledge of the objectives and provisions of the Victorian Mental Health Act (2014), and its amendments

About the role

You will be required to complete high-quality and timely mental health, alcohol and other drug triages to determine the most appropriate treatment and care pathways for infants, children and young people. Our Child & Youth triage clinicians, under established governance structures, provide clinical advice, recommendations and referrals. The referrals are received in written and telephone form, with the triage process undertaken primarily by phone. You will receive clinical guidance from the rostered Senior Clinicians (RPN4/AH3) and the Operational Line Manager.
