The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for undertaking individual assessments and providing focused psychological strategies for young people with mental health and/or drug and alcohol needs. This role will also work collaboratively with key stakeholders including families, schools, and other non-government organisations to ensure high quality outcomes for clients.

Your new role

In consultation with the Manager, Clinical Lead and Senior Mental Health Clinician (Young) of headspace Wagga Wagga, the Mental Health Clinician:

• Provides a range of focused psychological interventions (both individual and group) for young people with diagnosed or emerging mental health disorders and/or drug and alcohol issues.
• Assists family members to find constructive ways to support the young person with mental health or drug and alcohol issues. Liaises with GP’s and other health professionals (as required) to provide patient care in the area of mental health – specifically in the development and review of care plans and participating in case conferences as outlined in the Enhanced Primary Care Guidelines.
• Delivers psychoeducation regarding the nature of mental health and associated problems, makes information services available, and avenues of access to such services.
• Is responsible for the implementation of activities to engage targeted groups in program services and enable patients to participate in the management of their own mental health.

What you’ll need to succeed

1. Tertiary qualification in the field of Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, Counselling or related area and current registration with at least one of the professional associations
2. Demonstrated experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
3. Knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning evidence-based interventions and clinical practice as well as demonstrated excellence in the practical application of such, in the areas of youth mental health and alcohol and drug use.
4. Knowledge, skills, and expertise in complex care and the provision of culturally appropriate and socially inclusive services to young people

This position is a Part-time 30 hours per week, fixed term role till 30 June 2023, based in Young, NSW.
