This position is graded as an Occupational Therapist Level 3, Social Worker Level 3, Counsellor Level 3, Psychologist, Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 and Registered Nurse. Candidates who have completed a degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health (Djirruwang Program) may be appointed as a Counsellor Level 1/2.

The successful candidate will be part of a team that is located at the John Hunter Hospital and provides service to the John Hunter Hospital Emergency department and wards.
About the position:
The suitable clinician will be responsible for the provision of high quality patient centred care to patients 0-99 years requiring Mental Health Assessment, clinical formulation, brief intervention and linkage to appropriate primary, secondary and tertiary Child and Adolescent mental health during business hours (8.00am- 4.30pm) and both Child and Adolescents and Adults after hours 2.00pm – 10.30pm). This will be achieved through exercising experienced mental health clinical skills, professional knowledge and judgement to provide a high standard of assessment, clinical care, clinical advice and educational support to ward staff, patients, family and carers.
While working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the experienced Mental Health Clinician will act as a clinical expert, professional role model and utilise their knowledge and advanced clinical skills in the assessment, care planning and provision of safe clinical care for patients with needs related to Child and Adolescent mental health and all ages after hours.
The successful candidate will be supported by a Team Leader, a multidisciplinary team and consultant Psychiatrist. Clinical Supervision is highly recommended and supported as well as access to training and education opportunities.
About You:
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Mental Health Clinician with a passion for engaging with clients in an acute setting, and working within a multidisciplinary team environment to provide demonstrated sound experience in mental health clinical assessment, eating disorders, mental state examination, mental health risk assessment, clinical formulation, acute/crisis interventions and safety planning.
Information for Applicants:
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases – this is a Category A position. Please read and understand NSW Health policy directive (PD2022_030). All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in the policy.

This position is full time; however, part time/job share arrangements may also be considered.
