About the program
headspace Early Psychosis is based at headspace Southport and provides assessment, early intervention and case management services to young people aged 12 to 25 years experiencing a first episode of psychosis or are at risk of developing psychosis. All services provided have a strong focus on being young person centred and strengths based with the aim of functional recovery.
headspace Early Psychosis is a family inclusive service; families and carers are included in assessments and treatment. The program is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team, with support from peers who have experienced the same or similar challenges, who have shared values of a positive commitment to non-judgmental, recovery focused care.

About the roles
We currently have part-time and full-time opportunities across the service based at Southport in our teams:
- Mobile Assessment and Treatment Team (MATT) which manages all referrals and enquiries to South-East Queensland headspace Early Psychosis, offering triage and assessments in an outreach assertive engagement model. Day to day work in MATT is varied and includes opportunities for comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, clinical formulation development, planning clinical recommendations, and working closely with the continuing care teams to support smooth transitions for those accepted into the program. This work also involves advocacy and clinical liaison with external providers and relevant stakeholders.
- Continuing Care Team (CCT) manage a clinical caseload of young people focused on early intervention in young people with a first episode of psychosis, or at high risk of developing a psychotic illness providing recovery-oriented interventions in line with current best practice guidelines as well as care co-ordination with all involved supports. Ongoing assessment, formulation and treatment planning are also components of this role.
As a Clinician you will:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team delivering evidence-based interventions.
- Work collaboratively with young people, their families, and their supports.
- Establish and maintain strong networks with relevant organisations and providers.
About you
To be successful in the role, you need to be an engaging individual with the ability to connect with clients who are navigating mental health challenges and difficult life experiences. You can work collaboratively within a team and utilise the appropriate techniques to support your clients. You must have a genuine passion and commitment to making a positive difference to young people and their family.
You will also possess the following skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in relevant (i.e., Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, counselling) and eligibility for membership of AHPRA or the appropriate professional body.
- Knowledge of and experience in mental health care, including completion of mental health assessments, risk assessments, clinical formulations and psychosocial treatment for young people experiencing serious and complex mental health disorders.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with team members, other professionals, and outside agencies.
- Strong time management skills and ability to balance workloads while maintaining self-care.
- You want to challenge yourself and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, solving complex issues.
- You are diligent, thoughtful, reflective, inclusive and genuine.
- You are passionate about learning and self-development.
Compensation
The gross base pay for these roles ranges from 77,577 to 83,486 per year + salary packaging + super (10.5%), depending on skills, knowledge and experience.
