About the position 

If you have recently graduated, are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team in Canberra as a Mental Health Clinician. 
About the position
 
The Mental Health Clinician- New Graduate will be working towards their full APHRA and/or mental health accreditation and will work within the scope of practice of their profession to deliver services to young people aged 12-25 referred to headspace. A higher level of supervision and support is provided in this role. as you work towards gaining more experience as a Mental Health Clinician
 
You will work collaboratively with young people and their support systems (including as appropriate, their family or carers and other service providers) to identify their support needs, goals and to develop collaborative care plans, ensuring best outcomes are delivered in a youth friendly context. 
 
You will be working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary headspace Canberra teams and external service providers to maximise care outcomes for young people referred to our services. 
 
The opportunity is full-time, fixed term until 30 June 2025 and is based at headspace Canberra.

We are looking for someone with:
 
  • Current full or provisional AHPRA registration as a psychologist, clinical psychologist, mental health nurse, or occupational therapist (accredited with OTA) or accreditation with the AASW as a mental health social worker.  Applicants willing to work towards full accreditation will be considered.
  • Experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders, provision of Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy and other evidence-based focused psychological strategies. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of key issues in relation to the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people, and their family and friends.
