What you’ll be doing
Western Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Services is committed to building a professional workforce that supports consumers with a severe and persistent mental illness on their Recovery journey.
 
The role of the Mental Health Clinician on the Community Acute Care Team provides short-term crisis resolution and home treatment as an alternative to admission to in-patient units, as part of a multidisciplinary team, to people with a severe and persistent mental illness.  These services are to be least restrictive, collaborative, recovery-oriented, nominated carer and family responsive and inclusive, rehabilitative, encourages self-advocacy, facilitates empowerment and capacity for optimal independent function and utilises evidence-based practice interventions.
 
A primary goal of this position is to work collaboratively with staff, consumers, and other agencies (both within WSLHD and non-Mental health treatment and recovery.  This may include working on Quality improvement and service delivery projects as part of the role.

Essential Criteria:

Qualification: Degree in Nursing / Psychology / Social Work / Occupational Therapy
Registration: Full Registration with APHRA; eligibility to be a member of AASW for Social Workers

Selection Criteria:

  1. Experience and clinical skills in community mental health triage, comprehensive assessments, including risk and safety planning as well as experience in provision of collaborative care and discharge planning.
  2. Understanding of Mental Health/ Psychiatry service/ crisis work and ability to work with in a demanding crisis/acute management service.
  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with consumers/carers/families and has experience working with families who are coping with Mental Health Illness.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal communications skills, effective verbal, written and negotiation skills and intermediate computer skills. including the use of database systems.
  5. Experience and knowledge in acute mental health intervention, early intervention, and CALD issues.
  6. Understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health with the ability to implement these in clinical practice.
  7. Understanding of NSW Mental Health Act (2007).
  8. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia and willing to use it for work purpose.
