Next Step (IAPT) Coaches

The only stepped care service of its kind in Australia! Want to develop skills to help transform lives!

Our Next Step service is looking for enthusiastic Coaches to join our multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals. 

Exciting opportunity to work for one of Canberra’s largest community sector organisations! The Next Step program provides psychological interventions to adults and children experiencing mental health issues. 

 

Next Step is based on the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy initiative in the UK and provides evidenced based cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) via disorder specific models. 

 

The Next Step Mental Health Coaches will provide low intensity cognitive behaviour therapy to people with mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety. 

 

All new coaches participate in a comprehensive, 12 month training and supervision programme which allows our coaches to develop significant expertise in working within this framework.

 

CatholicCare is pioneering an Australian first program and has seen overwhelming demand for this service. As such we are looking for new coaches to join the Next Step team. We have positions available for Coaches who are looking to develop skills in delivering CBT to adults and young people.

 

The Role – Provide a quality psychological intervention service

  • Next Steps Coaches are responsible for providing Low Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to clients with mild to moderate mental health conditions
  • Participate in a comprehensive skills development program to deliver CBT interventions
  • Adhere to program guidelines to conduct client-centred assessments 
  • Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements 
  • Actively participate in a culture of continuous improvement across the team and monitor self-performance 
  • Maintain professional communication and provide timely response to all stakeholders, including written updates to referrers, when required, in line with program protocols

Selection Criteria

The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Demonstrated ability to build supportive and respectful relationships with people experiencing distress with mild to moderate mental illness.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and engagement skills, including on the phone.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working with adolescents, adults, and older adults. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and time management skills 
  • Competence with technology and data systems to be able to deliver the Next Step Model and to ensure reporting requirements and the Model is adhered to.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team and a willingness to participate in reflective practice.
