About the Role
The Mental Health Early Intervention Worker will be working within The Geelong Project Team to provide intake, screening and brief interventions with young people with mental health within a school setting. Part of the role includes utilising psychosocial assessments, short term intervention and outreach support to young people as identified through direct referrals from the school.
The key objectives of this role are:
- Participate in supporting a timely, responsive and efficient intake and assessment process as in line with BCYF procedures.
- Provide outreach mental health targeted support to young people.
- Engage young people in short term interventions that include group work, counselling, time framed case management and safety planning.
- Advocate and initiate client referrals to appropriate services including referrals to localised supports such as headspace centre based services, private practitioners for young people that require longer term mental health support.
- Provide secondary consultation to school staff and The Geelong Project Early Intervention Response Workers.
- Assist The Geelong Project screening process, including the assessment of priority and allocation procedures
- Liaising with external agencies on a regular basis in regards to transitioning support of young people requiring longer term mental health support.

- $88,959 p/a + super + salary packaging

About You
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology or other related disciplines.
- Demonstrated skills and ability to engage, assess and provide brief intervention support to young people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and evidence based interventions for high prevalence youth mental health issues including relevant AOD or Dual Diagnosis/Dual Disability experience.
- Experience in working within an education setting in supporting young people, wellbeing staff and schools as a whole.
- Experience networking and referring clients to internal and external services in a collaborative and supported approach.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
