The Role 

Job Title: Mental health Peer Support Worker. Full time. 

The Mental Health Peer Support Worker leads the development and delivery of Tenacious House Continuing Care Plans for participants moving into our in-community recovery program. This position requires excellent advocacy skills and lived experience and works closely with the clinical team, families, external agencies, government service funders and other key stakeholders. This position assists males with mental health conditions and co-occurring AOD issues through a person-centered recovery program of connection, hope, resilience and wellness.             

The successful candidate will:   

  • Develop, monitor and review continuing care individual care plans with participants in conjunction with the clinical team.
  • Work with participants to develop Continuing Care Plans
  • Help participants to be accountable to their plan.
  • Conduct regular and random AOD testing of participants.
  • Facilitate intake and voluntary or involuntary exit in the Continuing Care program.
  • Show the capability to support participants engaging with the Tenacious House Graduate Program and participants engaged with external development activities including TAFE education.
  • Be able to advocate for participants with other agencies to aid in their recovery and treatment.
  • Manage and maintain the Continuing Care properties.
  • Engage and supervise participants in a variety of groups and work therapy programs.
  • Have a strong and demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed care.  
  • Assist with a range of reporting.

Qualifications and Experience  

  • Qualifications in mental health, community work or counselling.
  • Demonstrated and well-developed leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High level written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to triage multiple priorities and manage time accordingly.
  • Sound computer skills in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate.
  • Current National Police Clearance.
  • Current Driver’s License and reliable car.
