headspace Kununurra – Mental Health Professional

You have a unique opportunity to work with one of Australia’s foremost Indigenous organisations, we have two positions available, Mental Health Professional & Clinical Lead.

The Mental Health Professional role is role would suit an individual looking to further develop their skillset, in a supportive environment, that is dedicated and commitment to supporting its employees with their professional development and aspirations.

The Mental Health Professional will be instrumental in contributing to growth and development of the headspace Kununurra service, providing education support, and clinical services to the Young People of the East Kimberley Community.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited):

• Provide mental health assessment and treatment of young people (12 – 25 years of age) experiencing mental health issues, including within their family environment

• Ensure young people are involved in their own care decisions, and work in collaboration with young people in all aspects of service delivery

• Work in conjunction with other services supporting youth in team-based care, with complementary clinical care and care coordination to facilitate access to ongoing social

supports

• Provide evidence-based interventions,

• Provide culturally safe and sensitive mental health services, in line with the headspace clinical governance model, to both individuals and groups

• Work to facilitate the development of long term supports within the community for clients

• Support the Clinical Governance requirements through adherence to headspace Kununurra policies and procedures and suggest ways to continuously improve

• Deliver educational information to individuals and community groups, including information on primary mental health prevention

• Work in partnership within the community to support a collaborative approach to further promote primary health care principles

Job Requirements – Essential:

• Degree level qualifications in allied health, behavioural/social sciences, youth work, mental health nursing, or a related discipline.

• Current full or provisional registration with AHPRA or full membership with AASW.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

• Advanced computer skills.

Desirable, it would be advantageous if you also have:

• Understanding of Indigenous communities, particularly in the East Kimberley.

Pre-employment requirements:

• Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)

• Satisfactory Working with Children Check

• Qualified Allied Health Professional with full registration with AHPRA or AASW

• Meeting citizenship/residency or visa requirements

• Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license.
