Mental Health Recovery Coach / Coordinator MyMateJake

JOB DESCRIPTION

MyMateJake’s mission is to support NDIS participants with psychosocial disabilities to regain control of life in general, return to optimal health and wellbeing, then progress to maximise their potential.

NDIS Psychosocial Recovery Coaches

Recovery Coaches empower, motivate and educate people with psychosocial disabilities to increase their independence, social participation, and economic participation. Participants are supported to take more control of their lives and to better manage the complex challenges of daily living.

Through recovery-enabling relationships and skilled coaching, Recovery Coaches will assist participants to build capacity, including strengths and resilience. Recovery Coaches will work collaboratively with participants, their families, carers, and other services to design, plan, implement and review a recovery plan.

As per NDIS descriptions,

Subject to the preferences of the person, the responsibilities of the recovery coach should include:

  • developing recovery-enabling relationships, based on hope
  • supporting the person with their recovery planning
  • coaching to increase recovery skills and personal capacity, including motivation, strengths, resilience and decision-making
  • collaborating with the broader system of supports to ensure supports are recovery-oriented
  • supporting engagement with the NDIS, including support with plan implementation
  • documentation and reporting.

Qualifications and experience

The following experience and qualifications are recommended by NDIS for recovery coaches:

Lived experience recovery coach

A minimum level of qualifications and experience is recommended to be:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar training, and/or
  • Two years of experience in mental-health related peer work.

Recovery coaches without a lived experience

A minimum level of qualifications and experience is recommended to be:

  • Certificate IV in mental health, community services, other related health fields or similar training, and/or
  • Two years of experience in mental-health related work.

About you

  • Lives in Central Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Lower North Shore, or Southern Sydney.
  • Must be extremely passionate about helping people with psychosocial disabilities.
  • Have the relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Uderstanding of the NDIS.
  • Experience working in the Community Services sector is preferred (Mental Health, Housing, Justice, DCJ).
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with participants, carers, other service providers and fellow staff.
  • Proficient with a range of technology such as Microsoft Office, video conferencing platforms and be able to write reports and emails in a professional manner.
  • Excellent time management skill and ability to work independently.
  • Experienced in staff management is preferred.
  • Have unlimited right to work in Australia.
  • Have a car and driver license as the role requires regular meetings with NDIS participants and other supports.

The team

Reporting to the principal recovery coach and work alongside and in collaboration with our recovery coach team.  Working from home as a normal practice with regular traveling to meet NDIS participants.
