Billabong Clubhouse has been in operation for over 20 years and is designed to assist people living with mental illness. The Clubhouse is funded through the NSW Government and has significant local community support who contribute through generous donations and fund-raising events. The Clubhouse is a place where people living with mental illness can regain confidence and skills to provide them with a sense of belonging and do it in an environment where they are made to feel safe, welcome and appreciated. All our programs at Billabong are informed by the needs identified by our members and are implemented working side by side with staff.
About the role
We are seeking a suitably experienced new team member to undertake the role of a part time Mental Health Support Worker. In the role you will be required to work in a supporting role with people who are living with mental illness. You will also work with our members to develop and enhance their skills to be as independent as possible, to encourage informed, safe and healthy choices and to promote, support and encourage a person directing their own decisions.

Skills and experience
- Certificate IV in Mental Health or other relevant qualification and/or relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to working with people in the the mental health or community service-based areas.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to function as an affective member of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to operate programs including MS Word, Excel would be highly regarded.
- A sound working knowledge of and commitment to working with people from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds
- Current drivers’ licence.
