JOB DESCRIPTION

Female Mental health Support Worker x 4 ( Northern Melbourne – Bundoora, Heidelberg, Ivanhoe and surrounding areas)

 

Role Overview: In the capacity of a Mental Health Support Worker, you will assume a central and influential role in facilitating the progression of our mental health participants along their journey of recovery. Your dedicated efforts will encompass delivering tailored support, imparting insightful guidance, and fostering a nurturing atmosphere that is marked by encouragement. You will extend this support to individuals facing a range of mental health disorders, among them schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Your adeptness, genuine empathy, and steadfast dedication will collectively work towards enriching the quality of life for our participants while fostering their sense of autonomy.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

 

 

  • Certified Proficiency: Hold a Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, or Community Services (or its equivalent), serving as a testament to your dedication to this field.
  • Proven Expertise: Demonstrate a robust history of engagement with individuals in diverse stages of their mental health recovery journey, substantiating your ability to effectively navigate these dynamics.
  • Holistic Understanding: Display a comprehensive comprehension of mental health disorders, particularly the intricacies of conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
  • Personalized Approach: Showcase your adeptness in crafting personalized recovery plans, taking into account the unique strengths and aspirations of each participant.
  • Communication Proficiency: Possess strong communication skills, allowing you to effectively convey information and support to participants and collaborate seamlessly with fellow professionals.
  • Empathy and Patience: Reflect unwavering empathy, patience, and respect in your interactions, understanding the significance of these qualities in the support you provide.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Demonstrate an ability to work harmoniously within a team, ensuring a unified and holistic approach to participant care.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
  • Behavioral management (physical and verbal aggression, property damage, absconding and sexualised behaviors)
  • Experience in working with diverse groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) people, refugee groups and LGBTIQ groups will be highly regarded
  • A current and valid Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check [less than 12 months old] and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement.
  • NDIS Workers Screening Check and NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate.
  • Evidence of up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19 (including at least 1 booster vaccination) or valid medical exemption
