Participants within the service will have severe and persistent mental illness and may have complex behaviours associated with their illness.
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will have comprehensive knowledge of different mental health diagnoses. You will also have experience supporting participants who show complex and challenging behaviour and be confident in responding to behaviours calmly and professionally and in line with behaviour support plans.
Your tasks may include but not be limited to the following:
- Behavioural management (physical and verbal aggression, property damage, absconding and sexualised behaviours)
- Work in a recovery-focused way
- Coordinate and implement social outings
- Day to day living support
- Complete detailed shift notes and incident reports.
Essential requirements for this role include:
- A proven track record working with people who show complex and challenging behaviours
- Experience working with vulnerable people in a residential setting
- Comprehensive knowledge of different types of mental health diagnosis
- Proven ability to work as a part of a close-knit team
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal
- Commitment to best practice
Qualifications and checks
- Minimum Cert III qualification
- Full NSW Drivers License
- WWCC
- First Aid – Less than 3 years old
- CPR less than 12 months old
- Mental Health First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain after a successful interview
- Willingness to undergo a police check
- Willingness to obtain an NDIS Worker Check (at your own cost)
- Evidence of vaccination or exemption from vaccination against COVID-19
