Our client, Women’s Health and Family Services, is a well-established and highly regarded independent ‘for purpose’ community services organisation, supporting the health and wellbeing of women, their families, and their communities, providing assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged women through their clinic, counselling, and support services.

The services the organisation provides are open to all Western Australian women and their families, with consideration made for the unique needs of Aboriginal, migrant, and refugee families.  

About the Role

The organisation has a well-established history of providing peer support for women in their recovery from an eating disorder and has recently expanded its services to a broader group including all genders, ages 16 years+, parents, and carers, offering assistance through individual sessions and group programs, using face-to-face, telephone, and online delivery.

Due to this expansion, an opportunity exists for an early career Mental Health Worker with lived experience of an eating disorder, and subsequent recovery, to join their team. Reporting to the Manager Client Services, Counselling and Mental Health, the role will involve providing emotional and practical support to participants on an individual and group basis, assisting clients to implement recovery strategies, helping navigate treatment options, evaluating client outcomes, and promoting hope for recovery.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional and practical support to participants on an individual and group basis
  • Assist clients to develop Individual Care Plans, implement recovery strategies and assist to navigate support and treatment options
  • Promote hope for recovery, choice and self-determination, and the importance of living well using shared experiential knowledge, skills, and strategies to enhance and improve the experience of recovery for participants
  • Assist in the development and delivery of parent, carer and family supports in both group and individual formats
  • Raise awareness of eating disorders and provide community education workshops

Job Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mental health and/or related health field
  • Lived experience of an eating disorder and subsequent recovery and have been free from requiring treatment interventions for a minimum of two years
  • Advanced communication skills to facilitate group programs and individual support sessions
  • Ability to self-manage own mental wellness and to demonstrate strategies for maintaining good emotional and physical well-being that can be shared
  • Have a positive, non-judgmental attitude towards people with mental health problems and AOD use, including those from Aboriginal, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to positively manage relationships and establish boundaries
  • An understanding of peer support, self-determination, person-centred care, and the concept of consumer-led recovery
  • Previous experience in the area of peer support and a willingness to further develop peer support skills by undertaking formal courses of study will be highly regarded

  • In line with Western Australian government Department of Health guidelines, certification of COVID-19 vaccination
