Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s national financial counselling and financial capability program. It is one of the largest and long-running such programs in Australia. Our evidence-based outcomes measurement process shows that we have a real impact on the lives of the people who come to us seeking assistance through materially improved mental health, personal well-being and financial resilience, including financial hardship alleviation. As a Financial Counsellor you will provide financial counselling for people who are in financial difficulty or hardship, or are wishing to avoid such situations, to develop and implement community member centred case plans and develop options that alleviate financial hardship, develop financial resilience, improve mental health and improve personal wellbeing.
This is a fixed term part-time position, 30.4 hours , based in the Lockyer Valley across Gatton, Lowood and Laidley. This role has some flexibility for working from home.
The role you could play
- Conduct client counselling sessions and community education sessions
- Regularly review open cases are and closed promptly on completion
- Provide information and actions taken, lead to positive outcomes for clients (achieved in the majority of cases as reflected in statistical data and client feedback)
- Develop effective working relationships with relevant community organisations, government departments and financial institutions
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of, and compliance with, relevant legal, regulatory and Moneycare processes and policies
- Operate the local Moneycare practise with autonomy
What you will bring
- Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor or willingness to attain as soon as possible
- Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or be willing to undertake study from outset
- Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds
- Demonstrated money management and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with people suffering difficulties and crisis
- 12+months experience in a relevant field
- Degree qualifications or extensive experience in the fields of welfare, finance, community services, psychology or business fields is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work within a counselling framework is highly regarded
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, active listening and analytical skills.
- Proficiency working within a Windows Office environment
- Flexibility with hours at times to meet the operational requirements of the role
- Relevant state Working with Children Check is required
- Drivers licence (if travel required
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.
