About us

Down Syndrome Queensland (DSQ) works for a better quality of life for people with Down syndrome by supporting and strengthening families and promoting positive and realistic images of people with Down syndrome. 

DSQ has partnered with The Parenting Research Centre, to deliver The MyTime peer support program within the Central Queensland Region. 

DSQ has been working within the community to support, inform and empower members of the community with disability for several decades and delivering MyTime services is a logical extension of the existing supports offered. 

About the role

The MyTime Facilitator will be DSQ’s primary liaison between group participants and will have strong facilitation skills. The position will suit an individual looking to add value to their current role and or further develop skills in group facilitation. 

The role is based in North Brisbane suburbs facilitating 2 groups alternate week Wednesday and Tuesday mornings,  2 hrs per group with additional admin hours allocated. There is future potential to start further groups based on need and or a virtual group. Groups run throughout school terms only so this role suits a person with family commitments.

Some of the tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Coordinator sourcing and scheduling activities and guest speakers to build group knowledge, particular to the needs of the group;
  • Localised promotion 
  • Engaging with current and engagement of new members;
  • Ensuring session content is based on best practice and relevant to the group needs;
  • Managing group dynamics and resolving conflict as necessary; and
  • Being punctual and well organised.

About you

  • You will have experience facilitating peer support groups; 
  • Strong networks within education / health and local community 
  • You will have a detailed understanding of the Disability Sector and local knowledge around supports and services
  • You must have or be able to obtain a Working with Children (Blue Card) and NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card);
  • You will also have a Driver’s Licence; and
  • Prior experience in a similar role and lived experience within the disability setting will both be highly regarded.

  • NDIS worker screening card 
  • Current First aid cert
