About the role
Graduate Oral Health Therapist Positions are designed for individuals who have successfully completed a Bachelor of Oral Health (or equivalent) within the last 2 years.
The role focuses on improving the health of Tasmanians by:
- Providing a high standard of oral health care to children and young adults;
- Delivering health education, health promotion and preventative outreach programs within community clinics and mobile dental vans across the State;
- Supporting individuals and communities to increase control over their oral health
Where you’ll be working
Positions are based in Devonport, Burnie, Launceston or Hobart and their surrounding areas. You will be based in a region (i.e., North West, North or South) and have the opportunity to work in community clinics and outreach clinics across a region.
The Allied Health Scholarship Program will prioritise successful applicants for positions in the North West and the North.

Appointment details:
- Appointment: Permanent, or fixed term, full-time
- Salary: $69,117* per annum + 11% superannuation
*Salary rate upon registration of the Allied Health Professionals Union Wages Agreement No 2 of 2022 - Salary Packaging: Access to a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year
- Relocation Assistance: Support for travel, relocation and initial accommodation costs may be negotiated for permanent positions
- Professional Development: $1,000 per annum entitlement for professional development course fees (daily wage, flights, accommodation, daily allowance paid in addition to this)

- Clinical mentorship from experienced dental therapists and oral health therapists
- Program activities including self-evaluation, goal setting and feedback from clinical educators to support growth and development
- Education program (including virtual sessions, hands-on workshops, and case discussions) with over 20 hours of Continuing Professional Development across the year

Allied Health Scholarship Program
You will also have the opportunity to submit an Expression of Interest for one of our Allied Health Scholarships. The Allied Health Scholarship Program provides up to $25,000 to support the costs of studying. Scholarship recipients will receive $15,000 in Year 1 of the Program (2023-2024) and a further $10,000 in Year 4 of the Program, following completion of three years’ service with the Tasmanian Health Service (from 2026-2027).
A limited number of scholarships are available and will be awarded on merit. Scholarship recipients must accept an offer of employment with the Department of Health and sign a Scholarship Agreement.
An offer of employment does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded. Please refer to the Allied Health Scholarship Program Guidelines for more information and complete the Expression of Interest Form. Please upload a copy of the Scholarship EOI Form as an additional document when submitting your application for employment.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registration as an Oral Health Therapist with the Dental Board of Australia.
- Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion, or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction check in the following areas:
a) Crimes of violence
b) Sex related offences
c) Serious drug offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty. - Identification check.
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
