JOB DESCRIPTION

The New Horizons Program is looking for a dedicated and compassionate social worker, counsellor or psychologist to join the team. 

Our goal is to create lasting positive change in the lives of vulnerable families, children and young people while offering meaningful career opportunities for our staff. The case complexities and demands of this role can be tailored to suit novice professionals as well as experienced practitioners.

The Program provides early intervention, counselling to children and young people who are showing early signs of mental health concerns or are at risk of developing such. 

The Role

In this role you will engage with vulnerable families via a psycho-social assessment process and tailored intervention planning. Both are geared towards improving family functioning and optimizing children’s and young people’s developmental potential. 

Our service delivery is designed to successfully foster and maintain clients’ engagement via home visits, school or community-based session, outreach counselling, psychoeducational group work, telehealth, and effective referral pathways. 

New Horizons’ interventions are client-cantered and grounded in attachment and family systems theory. They are brought to life by a range of evidence-based modalities, each counsellor’s individual style and area of expertise and practice interest.

Ideal Person

The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Relevant Mental Health Qualifications and/or Bachelor of Social Work/Psychologist/ qualified counsellors with registrations with ACA or PACFA 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the client group and their needs.
  • Ability to liaise and advocate with various stakeholders.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills

To be considered for this role you will also be required to hold:

  • A current Driver’s License; 
  • A Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT); 
  • A Working with Children Check (NSW)
  • You will also be required to undergo a National Police Check.
