Ngartuitya is from the Kaurna language and means ‘for the Children’. Kaurna people are the traditional owners of the Adelaide Plains region. Relationships Australia South Australia have been using Ngartuitya for some time for children’s services with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Ngartuitya Family Group Conference Service enables families to make their own decisions about how they will all work together to ensure their child’s safety and promote wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Tertiary qualifications (AQF level 7) in social work, perinatal metal health, psychology, occupational therapy, developmental education, counselling, or a Diploma (AQF Level 5) with relevant experience in a one of the aforementioned fields, or demonstrated relevant experience for Family Led Decision Making in a cultural context.
  • Demonstrated experience as a group facilitator, educator, family therapist or mediator.
  • Completion of professional training in Family Group Conferencing (or ability to complete within 3 months).
  • Demonstrated experience in community development and working with families in crisis or conflict.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and those from diverse cultural back grounds.

It would be a bonus if you:

  • Experience in delivering services to children and families at risk of entering the child protection system.
  • Perinatal Mental Health Certificate or related training and experience in working with parents and their infant in the first thousand days.

What you will be doing

The Ngartuitya Family Group Conference Coordinator (Perinatal Work) provides referred Aboriginal families in the Unborn Child Concerns service within the metropolitan region of Adelaide with an independent, facilitated process to support them to develop family agreement plans. The plans focus on the safety and well-being of the unborn child and outlines specific actions by family members will be undertaken to address risk of harm and the DCP concerns. The coordinator facilitates culturally appropriate family-led decision-making processes through NFGC to support secure and stable care arrangements for the infant as an early intervention measure.

  • Provide referred families with an independent, facilitated decision making process to support them to develop family agreement plans that focus on the safety and well-being of the unborn child throughout the pregnancy, develop a birth plan and a plan for the infant once born, that outline the specific actions by family members will be undertaken to address the DCP concerns.
  • Provide a high standard of coordination in line with the Child & Young Person (Safety) Act 2017 and Ngartuitya Coordinator standards.
  • Effectively prioritise workflow, understanding the Ngartuitya Family Group Conference Program and service requirements so that the referred family are responded to within set timeframes.
