Orange Door Family Violence Practitioner Dandenong and District Aborigines Cooperative Ltd

JOB DESCRIPTION

Orange Door Family Violence Practitioner

Become the helping hand for Aboriginal children, young people and families experiencing family violence.

This is a role where your understanding of “the system”, your ability to assess clients’ needs and to gain their trust can have life altering outcomes for those you serve.

Not a job for the faint hearted. But if you’re the sort of person who likes to make a difference, there’s lots of potential for job satisfaction and opportunities.

About you

  • Do you have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Work? And if not, are you able to demonstrate that you’re working towards that qualification and not too far away from achieving it?  (In the latter case, we’d fund and provide study leave for you to complete the qualification.)

  • Would you welcome the opportunity to work with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities?

  • Do you have the interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and temperament required to work full time with children, young people and families experiencing family violence?

  • Do you have sufficient exposure to Aboriginal culture to guide co-workers on System matters to interlace cultural responsiveness and safety?

  • Do you understand how Family Support Services work in Victoria and the different models of intervention?

  • Do you understand intake processes in Victoria, the MARAM framework and risk assessment practises?

If you answer yes to all the above, please don’t hesitate to apply, we’d love to hear from you!

About the role

Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, you’ll be:

  • Leading and supporting culturally safe and responsive practice in The Orange Door Southern Metropolitan Area.

  • Creating warm referrals to other services, as well supporting and advocating on behalf of client families.  Also helping them navigate their way through the system without having to recount every detail of their story to every new face and department they encounter.

  • Completing initial and ongoing assessment for children and families.

  • Developing Family Action and Safety Plans.

  • Working from the Orange Door Hub in Dandenong as well as through outreach at Client’s homes and other sites.

  • Supporting the Orange Door Team through consultation in hub meetings, education and outreach to ensure their work with Aboriginal families is culturally responsive.

As an employee, you will have access to benefits such as salary packaging and access to additional leave.
