Why this role matters

The Port Augusta Youth Safe Transport Service (PAYSTS) provides a transportation and mentoring service to Young People aged between 5 years and 18 years of age (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal) who are at risk on the streets and in unsafe situations within Port Augusta.

As the Outreach Worker you will provide outreach patrol and service delivery through the Port Augusta Youth Safe Transport Service (PAYSTS) program ensuring the safe transportation of youth and children to a place of safety between the hours of 7pm and 10pm on Weekdays and 6pm and 2am on Weekends.

We have multiple casual positions located in Port Augusta. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 4 Award.

The role you could play

Oversee and respond to the day to day needs of young people connected with the program through service delivery including:

  • Successfully engage with at risk Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal Young People and provide transport to places of safety
  • Establish relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation
  • Assessment is made of the client’s issues, needs, circumstances and risk at initial contact
  • Clients are assisted to access support services and establish community supports and where needed are assisted through advocacy with service providers
  • Mentoring relationships are established with at risk young people
  • Facilitation of group work sessions designed to enhance development of life and living skills and community engagement
  • Assisting with the frontline implementation and review of practice model/processes and implementation of change


What you will bring

  • A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Community Services or relevant field (or willingness to achieve this)
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment
  • Relevant experience in facilitation of group work
  • Working with Children Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • First Aid
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
